Bell takes flying lessons during writers' strike

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) ƒ‚ Catherine Bell is keeping busy during the Hollywood writers strike by honing her photography skills and learning to fly.

The star of Lifetime's "Army Wives" is taking pilot lessons in a Cirrus SR22.

"Who knows?" Bell told Hallmark Channel in a statement. "I may become a pilot for a commercial airline."

The 39-year-old actress who starred on "JAG" wanted to be a surgeon or a biomedical engineer when she briefly studied at the University of California, Los Angeles.

"If you don't improve in life, you tend to do worse," Bell said. "Things never stay the same in nature. They either get better or they get worse. So I like to aim for better in career, better in life, better as a person, better in all things."

Bell's latest project is "The Good Witch" airing Saturday on Hallmark Channel. She plays a new woman in town who moves into a haunted house and meets skeptical neighbors who don't approve of her new ways.
