(AP) Comedian George Carlin is entering a drug rehabilitation facility to shake his dependence on wine and a painkiller.

"I'm going into rehab because I use too much wine and Vicodin," the 67-year-old Carlin said in a statement released Monday by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. "No one told me I needed this. I recognized the problem and took the step myself."

MIAMI - Paris Hilton didn't do enough pledging for a 2006 sorority comedy, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc. filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Miami, alleging the 27-year-old model-actress-heiress owes $75,000 in damages for not fulfilling promotional obligations.

Hilton entered into an agreement in 2004 for the production and distribution of the movie "National Lampoon's Pledge This!," according to the lawsuit. Hilton starred in the film and received credit as an executive producer.

The Miami-based concern said it paid Hilton and her company, Paris Hilton Entertainment Inc., $1 million for "Hilton's acting services" and for "reasonable promotion and publicity" for the movie, which was released in 2006 and featured Hilton as the president of an exclusive sorority.

While most famous for her tabloid exploits and reality TV series "The Simple Life," Hilton has appeared in the films "Bottoms Up," "The Hottie & the Nottie" and "House of Wax."

She's slated to next appear in the movie musical "Repo! The Genetic Opera" and the tentatively titled MTV reality series "Paris Hilton's My New BFF."

Phone calls and e-mails to Hilton's manager, Jason Moore, were not immediately returned Tuesday.

Katie Holmes chops the bob down to a pixie

NEW YORK (AP) — Katie Holmes just keeps taking it off. Mrs. Tom Cruise, who made a huge hairstyle splash when she helped fuel Hollywood's bob craze late last year, has been seen out and about in New York with a new pixie cut. Photos popping up on the Internet show Holmes sporting a shaggier version of the short 'do, with long bangs and a tapered neck.

The style was popular in the late '80s and early '90s, according to celebrity hairstylist Porsche Waldo, adding that Rihanna has a similar cut that is more "spiky" and "punklike."

Last year, Holmes sheared off her long locks to create a sleek bob that some compared to the look popularized by Victoria Beckham, Holmes' friend. Internet critics weighed in: Some loved it, others hated it, sniping that Holmes looked like her then 1-year-old daughter Suri.

Stylists are greeting the new 'do with mixed reviews.

"I'm personally not crazy about the look on anyone," says celebrity stylist and beauty expert Billy Lowe, adding that the cut with its soft neckline reminds him of a wig. "I liked her much better in the bob. I thought it was really sophisticated, very chic and very trendy."

Stacy London, co-host of TLC's "What Not to Wear," raved about the cut, saying it fit her face and her fashion persona much better.

"This whole sort of fashion evolution since becoming Mrs. Tom Cruise, I think it has taken her time to find her sea-legs," says London. "This haircut is clearly a step in the right direction."

The 29-year-old Holmes, who played Joey Potter on "Dawson's Creek" from 1998 to 2003, is in New York preparing to star in a revival of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons," which goes into previews Sept. 18.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop singer Jewel eloped with her rodeo-star boyfriend in the Bahamas on Thursday, People magazine reported. The 34-year-old singer married Ty Murray, 38, during a private ceremony, the magazine said, quoting Jewel's publicist.

Jewel said on her Web site on Wednesday that she and Murray were heading to the Caribbean islands for six days with two friends.

The pair, who live on a ranch in Texas, had been together for more than a decade. Jewel, whose last name is Kilcher, achieved fame in the mid-1990s with such pop-folk tunes as "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games." She recently released a country album and served as a judge on the TV talent show "Nashville Star."

Murray is a legend on the rodeo circuit, winning the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's All-Around world championship title a record seven times.
